A light structure was proposed in the region in 1809, to be a guidebook for shipping and delivery using the Bristol Channel, because the only nearby lights at time have been the Longships and Lundy lighthouses.The surrounding spot has a loaded maritime record, with quite a few shipwrecks recorded from the coast, a testomony for the perilous waters.
